The Golden Gate Bridge, is one of the most recognizable symbols of San Francisco and California, and one of the most iconic landmarks of the United States. Located in San Francisco, it spans the strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean, hence the name. This photo was taken at the Golden Gate Bridge View Vista Point, at Sausalito.

Famous travel writer Arthur Frommer described the bridge as "possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world." I certainly agree. Here is an even more gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline from Ridge Battery at Fort Baker.

The Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District evokes an ancient Roman city in ruins. Complete with lagoon, the original structure was constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition to exhibit works of art. It was completely rebuilt from 1964 to 1974. I've seen The Palace of Fine Arts in the movies, such as in the Bicentennial Man in 1999.

Crissy Field just a few blocks from The Palace of Fine Arts has a fine view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Crissy Field used to be an army airfield until 1974 when it was totally closed. It reopened in 2001 as part of the Golden Gate Recreational Area after efforts between the National Parks Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to rid the area of hazardous materials.

A visit to San Francisco is just not complete without dropping by at Fisherman's Wharf. It is the center of the San Francisco fishing fleet. Dungeness crab is abundant in San Francisco's deep waters, and along the west coast of North America. Although the Fisherman's Wharf has been redeveloped into a tourist destination, the area is still home to active fishermen and their fleets.

The vast 412 hectares Golden Gate Park is similar to Central Park of New York City in terms of size, but is larger. Must see is the Conservatory of Flowers, the oldest building in the park, housing more than 1,700 species of plants.

From the site for rallies of influential American Universalist and Unitarian Minister Starr King, and support for the Union Army during the American Civil War, this public plaza has earned the designation as a Californian Historical Landmark. The plaza simply known as Union Square and the surrounding area is now a center for hotels, shopping and the theater district. Heart art installations were installed at the four corners of the plaza. These painted heart sculptures are from the Hearts of San Francisco exhibit. Organized by the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation back in 2004, the public art installation is held annually to raise funds.

Honestly, the 8 hairpin turns of this section of Lombard Street is quite cringe-worthy. This block of Lombard Street between Hyde and Leavenworth has been deemed "the crookedest street in the world." I can see why.

The San Francisco Ferry Building as seen here from the Embarcadero is a historical building designed in 1892 and was completed in 1898. The clock tower is inspired by the 12th-century Giralda bell tower in Seville, Spain. The Ferry Building houses the terminal for ferries traveling the San Francisco Bay and a marketplace where you will find organic and local produce.

I couldn't help myself. Apart from organic and gourmet food like cheese, bread and mushrooms, I see this!

This is Pier 14 at the Ferry Plaza with a scenic view of San Francisco Bay.  Not to be confused with the Golden Gate Bridge, at the background is the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, or simply the Bay Bridge.
