The Strat, formerly The Stratosphere, is a hotel and casino just north of the Las Vegas Strip. With an observation tower at 1,149 feet, it is the tallest in the United States and second in the Western Hemisphere, second only to the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada.
Originally envisioned as a tall 1,012 foot high neon sign tower for Vegas World, Bob Stupak, Las Vegas casino owner and entrepreneur, decided to build an observation tower with a rooftop restaurant in 1992. Vegas World closed in 1995 while the observation deck and the new hotel, The Stratosphere opened in 1996.
The Bellagio Chocolate Fountain at the Jean-Philippe Patisserie in Bellagio Hotel is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's Largest Chocolate Fountain. It measures 26 feet 3 inches tall and circulates 2 tons of chocolate at the rate of 120 quarts per minute.
