A little... a lot of drizzle will not stop me from exploring. Despite hurricane Matthew making landfall in Florida, here I am at Newport in Rhode Island, part of what used to be known as New England. Newport's colonial history is evident in the architecture of the houses and public buildings.

The Vanderbilt Grace Hotel, originally built in 1909, is a Newport mansion just a few blocks away from the waterfront. It was meticulously restored to its original glory. This is just one of many mansions in Newport.

This is the Chart House Inn, built in 1880 and extensively restored in 2006. It is surrounded by historic homes, churches and parks. It is a few blocks away from Thames Street and the waterfront.

The Trinity Church on Queen Anne Square is the oldest Episcopal parish in the state of Rhode Island. It is founded in 1698, the Georgian architecture was designed by American architect Richard Munday. It is now a National Historic Landmark.
