Kailua-Kona, located at the west coast of The Big Island, is often referred to simply as Kona to differentiate it from Kailua which is located on the windward side of O`Ahu island. Near the pier is the Kamakahonu National Historic Landmark. Kamakahonu means "the Turtle Eye" in reference to the turtle-shaped rock located at the left of the present beach. This is a reconstruction of King Kamehameha's residence.
